About Us

Our story

In 2023, we really started to miss living on the land.

So wee sold our house in Gretna and purchased this 60 acre property in the Black Hills - the area where Nathan and his family have lived for generations.

This property was originally Nathan's grandfather and a place he would graze sheep when moving them between properties.

We came up with the name Rystin Hill by joining parts of our children's names "Dustin and Rylee" and of course, the land being on a hill.

Soon after we moved here, we started discussing Pigs. You see, we were planning to clear overgrown bush that had become a huge fire hazard but we didn't want to use bull dozers or excavators to tear the land up.

Pigs have a natural digging instinct and they are able to turn the land without the same impact as a machinery. Meanwhile leaving behind natural fertilizer with their manure.

About our pork

Previously, we were never pork eaters.

Not satisfied with the pork you buy from supermarket. because they can be "moisture infused", dry and without taste.

But after trying free range pork, we were so surprised with the flavour that comes from pork that's been raised free range for it's whole life.

Our pigs never spend a day locked up in sheds.

Originally, we have built shelters for our first few pigs but soon found they were much happier making camp in the bush in their allocated runs, same with our sows when farrowing.

We also run an agriculture contracting business. Predominantly making hay and silage, so we are able to access the best quality feed for our pigs (that's also grown here in the Derwent Valley).

By opening our farm gate store - called the Pork Hut and our delivery service - call the Pork Van, we are able to provide top quality pork directly to customers all over Tasmania.

Thank you for supporting our family farm and we hope you enjoy our pork just as much as we do.
