Malbeena Apiaries Raw Honey

Seraina is originally from Switzerland and has childhood memories of her parents always getting the same forest honey from a friend who kept bees. After visiting their place, she became absolutely fascinated and wanted to learn more about keeping bees.

When Seraina moved to Tasmania, she started working as a commercial beekeeper and, whilst doing that, undertook a Diploma as an Apiarist. The seasons since then have enabled her to deepen her knowledge of beekeeping and enjoy her passion for the outdoors.

Tasmania’s flora and fauna is very special and unique. Seraina’s focus is to manage healthy honey bee colonies and produce high-quality honey ethically. Beekeeping enables her to be close with nature and wild places.

She works very hard to find places where the bees will forage in rich floral sources. This requires her to be in tune with the seasonal changes and also observe plants and trees for upcoming seasons. Every year, she moves her beehives between sheltered winter and spring sites to more remote wild places for the summer season.

During the season, Seraina processes the honey straight after it comes out of the hives to make sure the honey can be cold extracted and doesn’t need extra heating. The cold extraction is key to preserving the health benefits of raw honey.

To ensure her bee colonies are healthy and productive, Seraina rears her own queen bees every two years, and in doing so her colonies are placid and easy to manage.

Seraina takes pride in the high-quality honey she produces through working in the most ethical ways possible.

Please note: Stock and honey varieties will vary depending on the seasons and what is available throughout the year.
